Last Life: A Shakespeare Play is a striking assemblage of Shakespeare's words, revealing the evolution of a relationship: innocent inception, the pains of rejection and betrayal, the anguish of despondency and, finally, the ecstasy of surrender. As Kismet holds Man and Woman captive, primal and kinetic energy is created – simultaneously attracting, repelling, colliding and surrendering in an exploration of masculine vulnerability and the embracing of feminine strength, revealing the elemental and essential human truth that only our bodies are truly our own and in the end, they too must be left behind.

A few nice words…

“The play’s feminism is deep, pervasive, and fundamental. George’s composition is so graceful and the performances she elicits so subtle and coherent. George and her actors (especially Artner) give surprising credit to Shakespeare as a portrayer of women and a conduit of their desires...This is a questioning, constantly searching piece of work.” -John Osburn, Instructor in Drama and Dramatic Literature at New York University

“I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The performances were wonderful. It was such a uniquely written and directed piece and performed so professionally and beautifully. It was very interesting to me and such a pleasure to watch.” -Lindsay Roberts, NYC Talent Agent

“It was so great watching this wonderful show. it was truly amazing.” -Stephanie Venizian, Director

“Thank you all for your work, it paid off beautifully..." -Con Horgan, Actors Studio Member

Hurricane Sleep is a sonata of floating and drowning, a story of fleeing and finding, of what we hold onto and what remains when we are forced to let go. Outside is a hurricane.  Sal finds herself in a flooded bodega where she meets Ome and a host of other New York characters fleeing the storm. Between boxed wine, ayahuasca and maybe a seance, it is disaster that brings us closer together and true intimacy is found when we least expect it.

“The production is bold to walk the boundary between lulling and trance, and we like Ome and Sal are caught in the eye, and called to dream, sister and brother to both memory and prophecy.” - Osburnt.com

Hurricane Sleep is the soundtrack to that crisp Sunday stroll, and the good news is that you don’t have to see the show multiple times to feel its gallivanting pathos—you need but once. And if you’re patient during the “set up”, you’ll eventually be girded with a seductive coalescence that come-hithers you into a hyperrealistic world that feels like if Alice in Wonderland and A Christmas Carol had sex in an abandoned New York bodega during hurricane Sandy.” -Theater That Matters

“As Goldman shows us in her lilting script, it is ultimately through disaster that we discover our true beauty.” - Theater That Matters

As primordial man and woman face unity’s final threshold, they must face their scars, betrayals, and vulnerabilities through a matrix of Shakespeare’s wit and words. Trapped in a circle of salt, both are victims as well as predators, facing lifetimes of trauma in order to move forward and become free of lifetimes of hurt.
